Polyguard's Insulrap 50™ is a 50-MIL thick peel 'n stick vapor retarder membrane for cold piping systems. Insulrap 50™ is to be designed to be installed as a vapor retarder over insulation for direct burial applications. I-50™ is designed for "low debris" backfill operations where clean fill or sand backfill is intended over the piping system. For "dirty backfill" applications, use either Insulrap 75™, Insulrap 125™, or install Polyguard's Insulshield™ puncture resistant jacket over the I-50™ membrane before interring. I-50™ is not UV stable and cannot be exposed to UV light for an extended period of time. I-50™ is constructed using a 8-MIL polyester scrim reinforced polyethylene membrane laminated to 24-MILs of rubberized bitumen compound. The polyester scrim strengthens the membrane and provides improved directional strength to the product. This is especially helpful to fabricators who pre-apply the product to fabricated foam insulations, significantly lessening the "hour glass" stretching with non-reinforced membranes. I-50™ has the properties necessary to tolerate up to 300% elongation before break, so it will expand and contract with the piping system. The upper service limit of I-50™ is an insulation surface temperature of 160°F, if you are planning to use a moisture barrier on an elevated temperature system, consider Polyguard's Insulrap 'No Torch' 125™ which can tolerate up to a 200°F surface temperature. I-50™ can be 'factory applied' (see our list of QUALIFIED FABRICATORS) or field applied on the jobsite. Fittings can be either spiral wrapped, fabricated 2 piece, or gored. For more detailed information, please see the technical data sheet for Insulrap 50™. |
