UNDERSEAL™ Underslab Waterproofing Geomembrane
for Critical Projects

Why UNDERSEAL™ can take unprecedented construction abuse

One of the biggest problems with underslab vapor barriers is construction abuse. Workers with tools, and sometimes even construction equipment goes over the vapor barrier after installation, causing tears or punctures. A vapor barrier with a hole in it is, of course, useless.

In recent years higher quality vapor barriers have become available which are thicker, with greatly improved properties. These are a big improvement to the specifier who is looking for resistance to construction abuse.

Polyguard's UNDERSEAL™ Underslab Waterproofing Geomembrane product starts with one of these improved vapor barriers. Ours is 20 mils in thickness, and has greatly improved set of properties compared to previously used vapor barriers, which were typically 6 mils in thickness.

What gives UNDERSEAL™ Underslab Waterproofing Geomembrane its unprecedented resistance to construction abuse is what Polyguard has added to the vapor barrier. We have added Polyguard's highway underseal membrane. UNDERSEAL™ Underslab Waterproofing Geomembrane is a composite of the best vapor barrier material available (the bottom), a thick elastomeric sealant (the middle), and a high strength geotextile fabric (the top).

Polyguard's highway underseal guide specification has instructions for "Traffic over Polyguard". We state that Polyguard underseal "may be opened to traffic prior to overlay for up to two weeks".

Moreover, the Nevada DOT Special Studies Section installed Polyguard on US 395 and left it exposed over six months to a million vehicles "without signs of undue wear and tear". Their report concluded that the material was "extremely durable and can withstand a wide range of weather conditions". (Link to full study)

You can see why we use the phrase:"Unprecedented resistance to construction abuse".
