Polyguard Products is green in two ways. Our new production facility is being built green, and many of our products contribute to environmentally responsible construction.

Polyguard Products' new production facility
at 4101 South Interstate Highway 45
- a greener facility

In 2003, Polyguard Products, in need of expanded facilities, purchased the former Oakwood Homes production facility at 4101 South Interstate 45, in Ennis TX.

The facility, built in 1970, is essentially solid, but requires a lot of modification and upgrading to be suitable for our use. Polyguard has elected to rehabilitate the facility in line with LEED criteria, as published by the United States Green Building Council. As of 2/1/2004, LEED professionals Maureen Scanlon and Liana Kallivoka of Austin Energy have been retained, and a design charrette completed.

Polyguard has prepared a spreadsheet showing the target and possible LEED credits for the 4101 S IH 45 facility renovation.

How can Polyguard's products contribute to a LEED project?

Cross Reference to LEED Credits
There are numerous ways that Polyguard's products can contribute to a LEED project rating. We have prepared a table showing where our products could contribute to LEED credits. (click here to view table)

Cross Reference to ASTM Sustainability Standard
Many specifiers utilize ASTM E-2129 (Standard Practice for Data Collection for Sustainability Assessment of Building Products) as a basis of determining sustainability. Use this link to reach an Excel spreadsheet showing how Polyguard materials meet the ASTM criteria: (ASTM E-2129-01) (ASTM E-2129-03)

Unique Products for Innovative LEED Uses
Polyguard has several products which are unique in the industry, and can contribute to innovative LEED projects. These are:

Underseal™: A series of four barrier membranes for foundation wall or underslab application. These membranes not only waterproof in the manner of the classic 650 waterproofing membrane, but also act as a barrier to contaminants such as methane, radon, pesticides. They can also act as a barrier to insects, reducing the need for pesticides.

The Underseal™ line is partially based on technology used in Polyguard highway underseal. 35 state DOTs have used Polyguard underseals since 1972 to provide a permanent seal, even after the pavement above cracks or the joint above contracts, expands, flexes, or fails. There is a large body of DOT research proving that Polyguard underseals not only provide a permanent seal, but also reduce the amount and severity of cracking in the pavement above. This makes Underseal™ uniquely qualified to provide a new level of underslab protection. Patent protection has been applied for on these products.

Polyguard Masonry Flashing System: Polyguard is the only manufacturer to offer a complete line of masonry flashing products, including our own self adhesive flashing, preformed self-adhesive end dams and corners, and a combination mortar blocking/termination system. Masonry Flashing

LowFlow Drainage and Protection Mat: This 100% post-industrial recycled material acts as a combination protection mat (puncture protection is required over waterproofing membranes) and a drainage mat. It costs about the same as a protection system alone, which means that the drainage it provides is "free".
