Even today, many architects and building envelope consultants think that termite and pest control is the job of the PCO. But once you see termite entry points as being all around the building envelope, you realize that pest control operators are barely involved while the building envelope is being constructed.
Pest control operators have historically performed pre-construction termite treatment by applying termiticides underneath the slab and at penetrations and bath traps. With the development of TERM Barriers, sustainable termite exclusion will be built into the building envelope. TERM Barriers are mostly installed by construction trades such as waterproofers, framers, and masons. Pest control operators install TERM barriers at plumbing penetrations and bath traps. Since most TERM Barriers use materials already familiar to the construction trades, the appropriate construction trade should do the installation.
